Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the first step to start therapy?
It can often feel daunting to decide to start therapy. We offer a confidential free phone consultation with one of the clinical directors. This will be a friendly first contact where you can briefly describe your difficulties and we can get an idea of how we can help and who would the best therapist to work with you.
What can I expect from sessions?
The first session will be an initial assessment at the end of which the therapist will give you an outline of a treatment plan and an estimate of how many sessions you might need should you wish to continue with therapy.
There is no obligation to commit to further sessions.
Sessions are normally 50 minutes although sometimes longer sessions are recommended for more intensive work such as exposure, trauma or family work.
We work collaboratively with clients and there are normally agreed tasks to carry out between sessions. The aim of this is to put into practice what you learn in the sessions so you become more confident in dealing with your issues on your own.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes, we offer both Face to Face, telephone and Skype (or similar platforms) sessions.
There is research evidence that online therapy is as effective as Face to Face and of course some people prefer it as it’s more convenient saving travelling time. It can also be an extremely helpful way to work in cases where a home visit would be an essential part of the treatment such as in contamination OCD. Home visits however are more costly and difficult to organize so online ‘home visits’ are a very practical alternative.
Online sessions can therefore be complimentary to face to face sessions or as a course of treatment itself.
For further details please refer to our online therapy page.
How often do we meet?
There is evidence that weekly sessions are the most effective but sometimes that’s just not possible and we are flexible to offer sessions fortnightly or any other time frame that works best.
How much are the sessions?
Our fees range from £70 to £130 per session depending on the level of qualification and experience of the therapist. Please call to discuss.
Can I use my insurance to cover the cost of my sessions?
Some of our Therapists are registered with insurance companies such as BUPA, AXA Healthcare, Aviva, Cigna, WPA and Healix. Please call to discuss.
What is the policy for cancelling sessions?
All sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours notice will be charged at the full rate.
What about confidentiality?
We maintain the strictest standards of confidentiality and your data is kept securely.
